A well developed ear is one of the most important skills a musician needs. Just like having an eye for line, shapes, patterns, color and perspective is important for a visual artist.

How to use these files:
Listen to each file separately. There will be five examples played in each file.
Each example is repeated after a brief pause. During that pause you should repeat the sound in your "mind's ear" to strengthen your tonal memory.

Scale Recognition Self Test - Listening Examples for At-Home Study
Listen for distinguishing characteristics as discussed in class and identify the scales as:
Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Minor Pentatonic, Major Pentatonic or Blues - (some of these will be used twice)
When you are done, check the answer key and note which scales give you trouble. Repeat the self quiz process after reviewing all points you missed.
