Writing a melody to poetry, particularly well-known poetry can be a difficult task.
Poems are not written to become lyrics, but instead to speak of experience in a form of language not bound by the structure of prose.
"Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal
which the reader recognizes as his own."
Salvatore Quasimodo
For this project, we are looking for that middle ground where poems become lyrics and lyrics become poems.
Choose a short poem (or a fragment from a larger poem) which is written by a famous poet. Some strong recommendations:
English/American poets-
D.H. Lawrence
Emily Dickinson
Langston Hughes
Non-English (in translations or original language)
Rainer Maria Rilke
Salvatore Quasimodo
Pablo Neruda
Izumi Shikibu
