Blind Lemon Jefferson's music has a characteristic looseness of tempo, possible only because he is a solo artist. He does not sing on top of musical passages on his guitar, instead he will sing a line over sparse chords and quick strumming, and then allow the guitar to answer unobstructed. Blind Lemon Jefferson also utilizes very long notes, where he will express anguish by holding and possibly bending a sung pitch while he plays the guitar.

Blind Lemon Jefferson uses a similar "call and response" technique that I have witnissed in some of the Muddy Waters songs I listened to. Waters strums while he sings as well, then lets his guitar do the work. Of course, the feel of the songs are different. Muddy Waters' songs are very confident, while Blind Lemon Jefferson's have a wandering, lonely feel.
