Special Guest - Jonathan Wyner

Page history last edited by John DiTomaso 12 years, 1 month ago

On Thursday November 18th, we had the great pleasure of a visit by Mr. Jonathan Wyner. Jonathan is a professional audio engineer, performer and teacher. His recording and mastering credits run an astoundingly wide range from Nirvana to Miles Davis, Toots and the Maytalls to David Bowie.

Check out the website for his mastering studios in Cambridge called M-Works. Here you can read a few of his published articles, hear sound samples of his work and more.

His Blogspot is an excellent resource for you, providing real world, useful instruction on many important recording industry topics.

Jonathan also teaches Berklee College of Music students about post-production and has been a brass player for many years, playing trumpet, french horn in college and these days currently playing a lot of Tuba.

For his first visit to the Music Tech lab, Jonathan listened to our pieces so far, talked with students about their creative vision, and gave us valuable feedback. As we look forward to the January 12th concert Sonic Voyages II, we will do our best to use what he gave us to improve and expand our musical ideas. In early January, Jonathan will return for a second look/listen, and share even more of his experience and talent for making music.

If you missed Jonathan's visit, stay tuned for some sound clips and transcript excerpts here on this page.

In the meantime, use this page to post links to mp3s of your work and present short questions for Jonathan, and he will try to check in and advise you on an informal basis before he returns in January.

We just might convince him to perform a bit with us in the concert, so I think you should all start putting tuba parts into some of your pieces! Thank you Jonathan for your contribution to our young composers!
